My Own Subtitles — Chrome Extension

1. Overview

MOS (My Own Subtitles) is a Chrome extension that extracts subtitles from Netflix, translates them using the Google Gemini API, and displays dual-language subtitles. This privacy policy explains how MOS handles your data.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

MOS does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:

• Personal information (name, email, address, etc.)
• Browsing history or activity
• Netflix account credentials or viewing history
• Analytics or tracking data
• Cookies for tracking purposes

3. Data Stored Locally

MOS stores the following data locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API (chrome.storage.local). This data never leaves your device:

• Gemini API Key: Your API key is stored locally and is only sent directly to Google's Gemini API for translation. It is never sent to any other server.
• Extracted Subtitles: Subtitle text extracted from Netflix content is stored locally for translation and display.
• Translated Subtitles: AI-translated subtitle text is stored locally.
• Wishlist Data: Video titles and metadata you add to your wishlist.
• Settings: Your display preferences (font size, colors, layout, language).

4. Third-Party Services

MOS communicates with the following third-party service:

• Google Gemini API (generativelanguage.googleapis.com): Subtitle text is sent to Google's Gemini API for translation. This communication is direct from your browser to Google's servers using your own API key. MOS does not act as an intermediary. 5. Netflix Content

MOS interacts with Netflix's web player to extract subtitle timing and text data from content you are authorized to view with your Netflix subscription. MOS does not access, store, or transmit your Netflix credentials or account information.

6. No Remote Servers

MOS does not operate any backend servers. All processing occurs locally in your browser. The only external communication is between your browser and Google's Gemini API, initiated by you.

7. Data Deletion

You can delete all MOS data at any time through:

• MOS Settings → Data Management → Reset All Data
• Uninstalling the extension (all local data is automatically removed)

8. Permissions

MOS requests the following Chrome permissions:

• Host permission (netflix.com): Required to extract subtitles and display the subtitle overlay on Netflix pages.
• Storage: Required to save subtitles, settings, and your API key locally.
• Tabs: Required to manage subtitle extraction across Netflix tabs.

9. Children's Privacy

MOS is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy is updated, the changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of MOS after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
